Lash extensions, just like the hair on our heads, take a little bit of care to keep them lasting for as long as possible. Here are a few very helpful lash tips from me to you!

NUMBER ONE OF ALL TIPS:

No oil products near your pretty eyes!

I find that most cream cleansers tend to consist of some oil one way or another, therefore I suggest finding a gentle foam cleanser for your beauty needs. Checking the bottle for ingredients is an easy way to determine this for certain. Or consider moving to clean skincare. And then why not shop local, especially when lines like Face it are simple to use and easy to get your hands on. The ingredients are way less confusing. And there’s always google to see if other ingredients are lash friendly!

LASH TIP #2: RINSE AFTER TEARS OR SWEAT

If you find yourself having a teary day or a sweaty one, it’s best to rinse your lashes as soon as possible to free them of the salt from these. The salt in tears and sweat droplets can break down the glue and result in early lash loss. So, cup some warm water in your hand and hold the water over your eye to rinse it off.

LASH TIP #3: DON’T BRUSH WET LASH EXTENSIONS

Another tip I also follow, though some debate this one: NEVER brush your lash extensions when wet. Once they’re dry, start with a pat and a tap of your lash brush to separate them and then, once they have unclumped, gently comb your extensions out and into place. Tap Then Brush!

LASH TIP #4: DON’T PICK YOUR LASHES

Don’t pick your lashes! It can be a tricky one for some of us nervous nellies but it’s important to refrain from doing it. You might unintentionally pull out your natural lashes in doing so. Continuous picking CAN lead to alopecia – systemic, longterm hair loss.

LASH TIP #5: ONLY USE LIQUID EYELINER WITH LASH EXTENSIONS

When it comes to eyeliner, ONLY use LIQUID, NON-WATERPROOF eyeliner for along your lash extension line. Waterproof eyeliner is a no-no because it requires OIL to take it off. (And what was the number one rule of lash care? No oil products!)

LASH TIP #6: HOW YOU SLEEP MATTERS

This one can be tempting but… NO sleeping on your face, ladies, when you’ve got lash extensions. Doing so may damage the glue bond and can push them into different directions, if they don’t totally break off, that is.

LASH TIP # 7: NO SLEEPING MASKS

Along with the above tip, this also means sleeping masks are a no-no with lash extensions. These can do just the same damage as sleeping directly on your face. Try adjusting to sleeping on your side, perhaps adding a hand under your cheek as you fall asleep, or better yet, maybe find a way to sleep on your back, as our doctors tend to recommend for other health benefits 🙂

LASH TIP #8: USE SUNGLASSES

If you’re traveling in a motor vehicle or hopping onto that lovely summer speed boat – anything with high winds – while that wind feels wonderful against our face, it can rip the lash extensions off. Tip – wear those sunglasses! (And maybe even a hat to protect those pretty add-ons).

LASH TIP #9: SHEDDING CYCLES / REASONS FOR PREMATURE LASH LOSS

Natural body fact: we ALL go through a shedding cycle of our natural lashes, with or without extensions, 4 – 6 times a year. Don’t fret! These generally happen at the change of seasons or as we enter into different weather for extended periods of time. If you experience early fallout of your lash extensions (aka more lash loss than the usual), your lash artist will be able to determine this right away, as soon as you sit under her cosmetic lamp. It is akin to losing a bit of the hair from our heads from time to time. Totally normal!

LASH TIP #10: YOUR LASH BRUSH IS A FRIEND

And the last lash tip for today, which may seem a bit obvious to some but nonetheless important to note: Carry your lash brush everywhere. So you can always place those beautiful lashes back into position. It’s a lot tinier than carrying a comb for our luscious locks.

Lash extensions take a bit of care and getting used to but IT’S TOTALLY WORTH IT. Think of the time you save by not having to run to your mascara bottle or wash that black stuff off every night. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to kindly voice your concerns with your friendly lash artist.
